10/31/2016 1 Comment The Guiding Principles of SoundOver the past decade there has been a huge increase in awareness and interest regarding Sound and its capacity to effect matter. Those in the field of science have recently started using sound to levitate objects, destroy tumors, entrain the brain, and sooth the nervous system. However, this is merely a re-immersion of an ancient understanding of the power of vibration, and the underlying fundamental principles of our Universe.
We live in a world enveloped in sound, vibration, and energy. Even on the quietest day, one can tune into the distant sounds of the wind, insects, frogs, and flowing water, but what makes sound so healing if we are surrounded by an orchestra of resonance? In Quechua, Puro Sonido means pure sound and is the foundation of the Quechua language, and throughout the Peruvian indigenous cultures is believed to be the language of the plants. During their shamanic rituals and ceremonies, one can hear an array of soplandos (or blowing currents), overtone chanting, and animal sounds produced by the one conducting the ceremony. The more ambiguous the sound, the closer they are to the language of the plants and thus facilitating an immediate alteration in the listeners consciousness and deeper states of awareness. Although to popular belief, the one who channels the sound is considered the one performing the healing, but I tend to move away from the term "sound healing" for the connotation that we are not in control of our own experience and that the sound is doing the healing. In my reality, we are our own best healers. Rather, sound can be used to guide one into the interior journey space to confront the aspects of ones-self that are out of balance, and bring them back into a state of harmony. In my opinion, this is the function of all good medicine. True that the quality of sound and intention behind the enchantments can greatly affect our experience and level at which this healing can occur, but ultimately it is up to each individual as to what is gained (or rather what is let go of) during each experience. Our bodies act as resonant cavities, with each organ suspended by tissue and muscle to allow them to vibrate to their own innate resonance. Every molecule, cell, and atom are vibrating and dancing along with the primordial resonance of Source. Some dancing harmoniously and in synchronization with the rhythm, and some in syncopation to the flow of the celestial choir. The latter is where Dis-ease can occur and where our energy becomes turbulent causing disruption to the whole. Yet, due to the laws of "entrainment", the stronger frequency will always overcome the lesser. Just as the light will overcome the darkness, that which is vibrating out of phase will be coerced into dancing in rhythm once again. In this sense, one can use sound as a tool to bring awareness to the areas of our being that are out of balance and shed light on that which remains hidden within. In alchemy, this stage is the Nigeredo; the uncovering of the "primal matter" which lays deep within the subconscious waiting to be witnessed. the Latin phrase "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem" which means "visit the internal terrain, and by rectifying, you will find the hidden stone. The idea is for one to contemplate and reflect on ones death, giving one a perfect description of the potential attitude when working with sound as a means of expanding consciousness. Many have heard songs that could make one weep emphatically, or a soundtrack that alone could give one nightmares, or a melody that strikes something deep within us. Sound is a universal language that surpasses words. These experiences reveal the current atmosphere of our internal world and show one the unsurpassed potential in which sound has to facilitate lasting change. and here in lies the opportunity for us to evaluate these emotions to their original imprint on our system.
